[Date]: PII Management & Automated Data Deletion
Release Notes · Updated August 26, 2025
General Release
We're excited to announce a significant update to Reactor, introducing brand-new capabilities for handling Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and an enhanced data deletion process! These improvements give you unprecedented control over sensitive data and ensure downstream systems are accurately notified of data removal.
Brand New: Deeper Control Over PII with New Settings
We've introduced entirely new PII settings within the Data Standard for each connected data source, giving you granular control over how PII is managed. These settings are crucial for Reactor to correctly identify what to mask, redact, or hash when a customer data deletion request occurs.
Here's what's now available:
-
Comprehensive PII Handling Options: When you're defining how PII fields should be handled on storage or during anonymization, you now have complete flexibility with these new options:
-
Mask: Obscure certain characters with a masking character of your choice. You can define a specific masking character (like
*or#) and precisely control how many characters from the beginning and/or end of a field are replaced. For instance, a configuration of{*,5,0}means the first 5 characters will be masked with*, while the last 0 characters remain visible. This provides nuanced control over data obscuration. - Hash: Anonymize data using the 128-bit MurmurHash3 algorithm.
- Replace: Substitute PII with a null value or a default value you specify.
-
Mask: Obscure certain characters with a masking character of your choice. You can define a specific masking character (like
-
Clearer PII Definitions: We've introduced new options for categorizing PII fields, ensuring better clarity and more accurate data management:
- PII Classification: Categorize fields as PII, None, or Other.
- PII Level: Further categorize fields as Direct PII or Indirect PII.

Automated Downstream Notifications for Data Deletions
To ensure data consistency across your ecosystem, Reactor now automatically sends messages to downstream systems when a data deletion request is processed. This means that when a user's PII is deleted or redacted within Reactor, your connected downstream applications can be immediately notified and take appropriate action, ensuring compliance and data integrity throughout your data pipelines.

These new capabilities empower you with precise control over PII and streamline your data deletion workflows. These enhancements will significantly improve your ability to manage sensitive data effectively and meet compliance requirements.
